UpRising
UpRising is a national youth leadership development organisation. We are recognised at Government-level as a pioneering charity championing the critical issues surrounding diversity, social mobility and equality.
Our important work provides routes to leadership and employment for 16-25 year olds who have talent, but lack opportunity. The mission is to break the cycle of unrepresentative power in the UK, by developing new, community-minded and socially-conscious leaders; so that our future decision-makers truly represent our diverse communities.
We want to change the face of power in the UK – quite literally.
About UpRising

UpRising was born in East London in 2008 and became an independent charity in 2012. It was started to help identify and support a new generation of talented adults from diverse backgrounds to take up leadership positions across politics, business, the public and voluntary sectors.
Their research found that the people who represent the interests of the UK population and lead its institutions do not always reflect the population of the UK today. The majority of those with power come from a narrow range of backgrounds, for example:
- Just under 3% of Britain’s most powerful and influential people are from black and minority ethnic groups (The Guardian)
- Just 8% of FTSE 100 directors are non-white (The Parker Review)
- Amongst the CEO’s of big companies, there are more David’s, then there are women and earn 77% more than their female counterparts (CIPD & High Pay Centre)
- In the voluntary sector only 6% of senior management and 8% of trustees in Britain’s 50 largest charities are BAME (Inclusive Boards)
- In some of the key professions, the percentage of those who were privately educated is 74% of judges, 61% of those working in medicine and 51% of journalists. (The Sutton Trust)
Young people from under-represented backgrounds are less likely to ‘get ahead’ and progress into leadership roles.
This is where UpRising steps in. They are creating a movement of new leaders who reflect the energy, talent and diversity of our country. They think that is pretty powerful and very exciting for our future. We agree.

Having been introduced to UpRising in early 2018, it became immediately apparent that there was a strong alignment between UpRising’s aims and objectives and Great People Inside’s capabilities.
We are engaged in using the GR8 360 to help measure the degree to which the UpRising programmes improve the performance of participants and to help UpRising to continue to recruit exceptional people to deliver their programmes.
